After starting with a rousing children's song of "Bind us Together" Rev. Dr. Ken Henry reads from John 17:11-26. This confusing passage, Henry explains, is a prayer, Jesus farewell prayer. "Prayers are not about making sense; they are a language of the heart; they are the deepest longings in our souls, they are the place of honest conversation with our maker." The message in Jesus' prayer is that we belong to the greater power and sphere of God's love. It is this love that in times of turmoil that makes the world tolerable. Liturgist Carol Campbell reads from Acts 1:1-11, and Ephesians 1:15-23.
